今晨NBA的最新消息，謠傳多時的Tracy McGrady交易終於圓滿結束。
具體交易細節如下：Rockets送出T-Mac、 Carl Landry和Joey Dorsey，得到Kings的Kevin Martin和Hilton Armstrong，同時得到Knicks的Jared Jeffries、Jordan Hill、2011和2012年的保護性首輪選秀權。Kings送出Martin、Armstrong、Sergio Rodriguez，從Rockets得到Landry和Dorsey，同時從Knicks得到Larry Hughes； Knicks送出Hughes、Hill、Jeffreis和兩個未來的首輪選秀權，得到Rockets的T-Mac和Kings的Rodriguez。
綜合而言，Rockets總經理Daryl Morey又再施展數年前無中生有從Spurs換來主力大前鋒Luis Scola的絕技，以毫無鬥心約滿在即的T-Mac和後備大前鋒Landry，換來主力得分衛Martin和另一潛質頗佳的後備大前鋒Hill，是絕對的勝方。當然，NBA的交易，永遠有其奧妙之處。Rockets的目標是速戰速決，待明年姚明復出一兩年內爭標。Kings的目標是減班費，可避免付NBA 的豪華稅。Knicks的目標更奇怪，將大部份球員送走的送走，解約的解約，只為明年簽下LBJ、D-Wade、Chris Bosh或Amare Stoudemire四中之二的夢。這交易各取所需，皆大歡喜。
一直覺得NBA的球員交易設計，複雜又奧妙，相對歐洲足球以金錢掛帥，貧富懸殊數隊長期獨大的局面，我對NBA的設計更有好感。希望有機會能多寫一篇。
針對這項交易的各種意見，我在Houston的網上報章論壇Houston Chron發表了以下評論：
After I read the comments here, it's funny so many people write before they read and think:
1. Landry is 27, not a "young" player, let alone one of the best "young" player in NBA. (Believe it or not, some fans say so in their comments!)
2. Landry is not an All-star, and would never be an All-star. (Again, some fans say so in their comments!) He is listed as 6'9", but looks more like 6'7". History tells us an undersized PF in NBA would fade very fast after an injury or approaching 30.
3. Landry is tough minded, scores, rebounds & plays like a machine, but his size weakness and reliance on natural fitness to battle against big players renders him the third option behind Scola and Hayes in a height deficit Rockets team. In NBA, size really matters for big men.
4. I understand the love for Landry, but it's a universal truth that home town fans always over-value players in own team and under-value players in other teams. Look at how Kings fans value K-Mart and you'll think K-Mart should only be traded for LBJ and D-Wade.
5. K-Mart has the size (6'7"), moves fast through screens, can drive to basket & shoot consistently from mid-range, 3-pt and FT lines. This breed of player, once common in 80's, is slowly becoming extinct in NBA nowadays. Yes, he's weak on his frame, just comes off an injury, and has not proven to be a winner in a winning team. But his distinct offensive capability is a valuable piece in all Championship calibre teams. Just ask the Spurs & Cavaliers.
6. During Morey's tenure, he traded for Scola, Lowry & Ariza without losing key players, drafted Brooks, Budinger & Landry with late 1st round or 2nd round picks. Now he converted T-Mac into the best deal available from all trade rumors, and Rockets fans here are still screaming and call him "Stupid piece of crap". Thank you fans!
7. Last but not least, I'm extremely surprised there are fans who are still moaning that Rockets lost on the Gay-for-Battier trade in 2006. Com'on, after 4 years, despite his 20 pts/game, Gay has still not proven he can be a winner in a winning team. If you still don't understand, take a look at the rosters of Knicks, Warriors and Clippers. Both teams are full of scoring machines, and losers.
